Michelle11/17/11 09:52 pm1: That a Voice Be TrueSigned

For some reason (and I'm almost certain that your intentions lay elsewhere), this ficlet made me realize how much more important song is in a world like Middle Earth - how much more important it was for our parents' or grandparents' generation. Today, we switch on the radio or the iPod or we go to the supermarket. There is music everywhere to a point where it becomes nothing but noise. But there, if you wanted to hear a melody, chances were you had to create it yourself - most easily by singing. Perhaps this is why Aragorn's life and the song he sings/not sings seem to be heavily intertwined. I can very well imagine that when you go to a distant land, under a false identity, that the only thing you can take along are your stories, your memories - and your songs. So it's something very intimate, something that shapes you.

And I loved that you ended with the coronation - after starting off with Aragorn as a child, that felt like coming full circle.

Author's Response:

I often think it is even better when my stories make the readers think of something I did not intend, at least when it happens like this. You are right: I did not aim for that asosiation, but I can see it myself, now that you have pointed it out to me. Thank you.

The corronation seemed the natural place for me end. I am happy you feel the same.
