This was just heart rending. It must have been so hard for a caring man like Aragorn, but he did at least ease the boy's pain and fear. Very well written!

I read this story a while back on Teitho, but when I saw it here, I felt I should say something.  I read a lot of fanfics, and over time even the best fade a little; only an occasional detail sticks in my mind.  Not so with this story.  It's so vividly portrayed--with Tamas' fear, Aragorn's pain and guilt--it's almost haunting.  It stays with me, and that's how I know this piece is special.  So, great job.  Thanks for having the courage to portray a controversial topic simply and honestly.

Author's Response: Thank you, that means the world! I was actually afraid to write/post this, because I feared people would object to this side of Aragorn. I was very relieved to find that my fear was unwarranted and that a lot of readers felt this was a topic that needed to be addressed.

This story of yours impressed me already when I read it the first time a while back on Teitho. Truely a controversial theme, and since I am sensitive to the topic of truth and lie, especially in medical context, it was of special interest to me. You made Aragorn's conflict as well as his solution very believeable, and to my surprise I really feel he did the right thing, given the circumstances.

Author's Response: I'm glad you found it believable. I actually did not try to "convince" the reader to accept or oppose Aragorn's decision (Aragorn himself is definitely NOT convinced), I just wanted to portray how a situation like this most likely would have been handled. I wanted to write something that is not the usual lotr-fic healing scene where the character survives a basically fatal wound after Elrond puts some obscure greenery on it. I like those, I'm a h/c fan after all, but sometimes I feel the need for a little more "reality".
