Ah, I do so enjoy your sense of humor!  The flow of Aragorn's thoughts was very fun here, despite the really rather grim situation... I was fully expecting the spider to spring on him, but I like how you avoided going there with the timely arrival of Legolas and his bow.  Very entertaining fic!

Author's Response:

I'm very glad you like my sense of humour and enjoyed my first attempt at writing LotR fanfiction! *g* This story would have been fun to write if I hadn't been so nervous about trying to write a story in English for the first time. I think Poor Aragorn was quite lucky Legolas arrived at the time he did - the spider would probably have been able to simply squash him, lol.

Thank you so much for reading and reviewing! :)

Poor Aragorn, he surely is having a bad trip to Mirkwood!  I hope he finds his horse!  I was thinking that somehow, if Legolas hadn't shown up, Aragorn would have outsmarted this spider.  But Legolas has great timing to save the day.  Legolas probably has been following Aragorn all the time, secretly in the bushes, watching him fall in the river, beset by orcs, and laughing to himself. ♥

Author's Response:

Hi Kestrel,

I'm very sorry for the belated review reply, but my computer crashed in December, I spent the first two months of this year moving into a new apartment, and then I didn't have an internet connection for some time.  :P I agree that Aragorn certainly doesn't have a good time in this story. ;-) It is quite possible that Aragorn would have found a way to save himself if Legolas had not shown up, but I think he didn't really mind being rescued, for once. *g* Thank you so much for your review! :)

You know, in really thinking about it, Aragorn is a very intimidating character.  I mean, he traveled the Paths of the Dead, summoned a bunch of cursed ghost warriors (for pete's sake!), led them cross country to intercept the black ships and commandeer(sp?) them, sailed up the Anduin to turn the tide of a losing battle on the Pelennor, fought all day and then healed all night (3 critical patients - Merry, Eowyn, and Faramir - of whom required a mental/spiritual healing from the Black Breath) and never got any sleep (that we know of!).  Can you say 'Super Ranger'?  I think I like fanfiction so much because in most of these stories, he's just a guy (much more human), and a sometimes stubborn, ill-prepared one at that!  LOL

Take this story, for instance.  Did he listen to the voice of experience (i.e. the Prince of Mirkwood)?  Well, of course NOT!  He just charged right in - into trouble!  See?  Just a guy!  :-)  I liked this story - even the spider.  (But you're right - who wants to own a spider?  ICK!)  Still, she had a point when she looked at Aragorn and hissed 'Tasssty'.  I happen to think the same thing, from time to time! ;-)  Lots of humorous exchanges between the two friends here, though I'll bet Aragorn was thinking after awhile, "Shoot the thing already, Legolas!"  My favorite part:  "I came to invite you for dinner, but as I can see, you already have an invitation."   *g*  This was just a great little scene that shows so much of the friendship between these two.  I'm just as glad as Aragorn that Legolas was there to take care of things.  Wonderful, Tinu!  I have to go up to school today to start preparing my classroom for 'first day' (ICK!) and this story has started my day out right!

Author's Response:

Now that you mention it, he *is* rather intimidating, isn't he? In the books he's really quite stern, and he's undoubtedly dangerous in books and movies (even more in the movies, I guess). I love fanfiction because he's a more human character there, too! What I really dislike is the superhero-syndrome, for the simply reason that superheros do not really need friends, and, after all, I'm the person who loves reading about friendship! I have to admit though that Aragorn is *very* human in this story! *g*

Poor Aragorn, I fear I have probably undermined his authority with that story! ;-) But of course he's young and unexperienced, lol. Well, I certainly don't want to own a spider (especially the Mirkwood-variety), even if she happen to have good taste. *g* I happen to think the same thing too, from time to time. :D Writing this story was quite entertaining, though I was terribly nervous as it was my first story in English and I always feared to get stuck. ;-) I think the "dinner"-sentence was my favourite one, too! I love writing all kinds of friendship scenes between those two, but I always fear this story is quite superficial. Well, as it was my first try, I still like it. :) I'm glad you enjoyed this little story, and I hope you had a great "first day" (and very nice, well-behaved pupils)! Thank you very much for your review!

P.S. Feel free to unashamedly plug your stories all you like, I think you've gotten yourself a new fan. *g*

tututut.  Will Aragorn EVER listen?  must he always have something to prove???  Mirkwood is a dangerous place you know.  It would have been nicer had he been alive when Mirkwood was Greenwood the Great.  Then perhaps he would be able to travel through the wood without atracking trouble like a magnet!!

Goood writing!!

Author's Response:

Well, if Aragorn *would* listen there wouldn't be so much tasty ranger angst... ;-) I somehow like Mirkwood - well, not exactly to live there, but there are so many nice possibilities to get into trouble there. *g* That could be the reason for all of Aragorn's difficulties - he was born at the wrong time, lol!

I'm very glad you liked it! :) Thank you very much for reading and reviewing!
