Wow. Your story was wondeful. It managed to stay true to both the books and the films, while being amazing in its own right as well. It sounded so much like what the characters would actually do, and portrayed their grief and friendship so much.

It is surprising how calming, yet cathartic music can be sometimes. I lost my husband last year unexpectedly, and certain music that he liked can still make me laugh or reduce me to puddles with just a few notes. And Aragorn is right, the tears don't soothe the pain, but the release does make it somewhat bearable. I love the lengths Legolas is willing to go to to help Aragorn with his grief, and I firmly believe that if Aragorn had gone back, Legolas would have followed, no matter what! Such is the nature of their friendship...of which you write so well, by the way! Once again, lovely images of the two singing together, and the trees leaning in to get closer to the source of that music. Wonderful story of a difficult time! Linda
Author's Response: I'm so sorry to hear that you lost your husband, Linda! *HUGS* That must have been such a very difficult time for you. It sometimes seems part of the dear people we lost lives on in things they loved. I think music is something special, because there is so much of the soul and the heart in it. I always disliked hearing that crying would make one feel better - it can help to release the pain, but in the middle of despair it usually makes one feel worse. I'm convinced that Legolas would have followed Aragorn as well - I never noticed this before I wrote this story, but if Aragorn had followed his heart and tried to save Gandalf the entire Fellowship would very likely have perished. I love writing of the two of them comforting each other - it's just heartwarming, because they know each other so well and know just the right thing to do and say. *sigh* Such a friendship must be infinitely precious. There are some very nice images throughout this chapter - let me see if I can find my favorite: "...the powerful silver trunks of the Mallorn trees rose up like the columns of a temple"; "...the voices of the trees, like a quiet, consoling whisper in his mind";"...wrapped in grief as in a dark cloak". Those are only a few. You touch on Legolas' grief, but it is his concern for Aragorn's state of mind that drives him to look for his friend. The doubts and self-blame the Aragorn is experiencing are very well done, and sad. If he could not protect and save a wizard, how could he think to do the same for a hobbit? Yes, indeed. The Fellowship had not only lost a friend and mentor, but a leader as well. This is very well written, Tinu! Your first translation into English, too! Wonderful! Linda
Author's Response: Thank you, I'm really glad you liked this story! It is perhaps still the story closest to my heart, and the first fanfic story I ever finished. It is much easier for me to use images in German, the language I use for my English fics is usually more simple by necessity. ;-) I can's say that made the translation any easier, though. Where the quality of the translation is concerned I owe a lot to Alina (we had to work on one sentence for days until the meaning was right). You know, Aragorn and Gandalf were so close in the books that I really missed a scene with Aragorn grieving for his friend (and feeling guilty for his death, of course) in the movies. Well, there wasn't much about this in the books, either. And it must have felt so strange and frightening for all of them to lose the strongest member of the Fellowship first. | You nearly had me crying there! Such a beautiful story... there are a lot of 'Legolas&Aragorn share their grief in Lórien' stories, but usually they end up with the two of them sobbing their heart out, which I find rather OOC. You managed to portray them truthfully and show their pain in a wonderful way. I am curious though what happened to poor Legolas! Will you write another story about that? You'd make me a very happy person... ;) Keep up the good work!

Author's Response: I'm so glad to hear that you liked my story! *smiles and hands over box of tissues* I have problems with said OOC stories myself - sometimes, it is nearly embarrassing. It was quite challenging to write that in a way that would allow Aragorn and Legolas to cry and still remain true to their character. I'm glad to hear I succeeded! :) I will write a story about what happened to Legolas - am writing it, in fact. ;-) It will probably need some time, as it is a long story, but I'm working on it. There are some more hints on what happened to Legolas in my story "Found", as I am writing shorter stories in between to motivate me. ;-) Oh, and I really love that picture! :) I did not know it before, and I think it is very fitting!
