I must admit that I'm a very superstitious person. I always try *not* to be, but I'm not always successful. It's usually not something commonly known as "don't walk under ladders", but more personal stuff: always wear your good luck charm for important appointments...
I find the idea of the "lucky" cat interesting, because in Germany it's the other way round. Black cats foretell bad luck (not for me since I have one). And yes, as you described so aptly, one can get quite tangled up in superstitions - or you can make them up as you go along:)
(Also, loved the Poe quote in the beginning. I adore that poem. Did you know that Christopher Lee interpreted it for a German audiobook - it's a masterpiece.)
