Wow, marvellous! I'm right glad Cal spotted this story and recced it. I do tend to browse the recent list there, but it's a real bother to seperate the good from the bad and the ugly:) This was one finely crafted tale, mirroring these two characters and showing certain points in their lives. I think I liked the "leavetaking" part best - Aragorn saying goodbye to Gondor while Denethor buries his father. It's a very poignant scene and of course it's also the focal point of the story because of the changed POV. And then there's the little bit with ranger!Aragorn in a tavern and I've never been able to resist that image *sigh*. It's probably the fangirl in me.
Author's Response: Thanks! A couple people have mentioned liking the bit with Strider in the tavern, which is ironic because I almost cut that part. I didn't have a good equivalent scene for Denethor. In the end though, I liked the image too much to give it up (we can be fangirls together ;-) ) I've been working on some ideas for multi-chapter fics using these characters, so it's good to know that you enjoyed my interpretation of them. cheers! -Brennan |
