I find I like Rajal and his desert very much, and am glad if Aragorn must meet a resident of Harad it was this one.

Author's Response:

Thank you for the review - and for the one on the Mefa-site as well:) About Rajal: I think Aragorn is one of those rare people to whom finding friends and allies just comes naturally. He's simply lucky in his acquaintances, probably because he's also ready to accept new cultures and different ways of life. But I do like that character trait, so I'm extremely happy the "new friend" I created for him meets with so much approval from my readers.

As for "Lawrence of Arabia", I've seen it ages ago, but I definitely tried to convey what a powerful experience such a trip through the desert must have been. "Hidalgo", though, I haven't seen yet. Yes, I know, it's a shame and I'm blushing furiously right now:)

Eieiei... I think you described every and any possible detail about being thirsty in a desert :-). I loved it! And I liked Aragorn's interaction with Rajal a lot - but I definitely will not plan a vaccation in a desert any time soon, despite its possible value as tool for soul-searching and growth ;-). Well done!

Author's Response:

Actually no, I didn't include every detail. Some stuff I found while researching dehydration seemed too gruesome for me to add in a T-rated fic. And I usually don't have a weak stomach where such things are concerned...

And a little behind-the-scenes-info: The character of Rajal was originally a 14-year old girl ready to be married off to the old leader of another tribe. Then she developped into a young boy tending the horses of the bedouins. And in the end I decided to make the character significantly older.

I guess you know this got my first place vote. It was a wonderful read, full of terrific imagery. I found myself wanting to run get a big glass of ice water but not able to tear my eyes away until I had finished it. Great job, Michelle, and a much-deserved winner!

Author's Response:

No, I didn't. Nautika does the counting and I generally try to stay away from those mails - especially when I'm participating myself. It's so much more fun if you're as surprised as everyone else (it's bad enough that I know who wrote which story *g*).

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Making you long for some water was definitely the desired effect:)

Wow, Michelle! No wonder this took 1st! Absolutely AMAZING description here. I could feel with Aragorn the whole way. Fantastic imagery. I'm impressed. *grin*

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm a bit baffled that readers like my desert so much. It was hell to write, but it seems it was worth it!
