The only information absolutely necessary to create an account is:
Penname
Email (this needs to be an active address - or things like password retrieval won't work)
Password
Apart from this, the registration screen gives you the opportunity to add quite a bit of information about yourself - bio, picture, links. It is not necessary to fill this out during registration, you can always go back later and edit your profile.
