When Aragorn, now in his thirties and a skilled ranger, and his adoptive brothers, Elladan and Elrohir, go out for a day of hunting and fun, everything goes wrong and Aragorn and Elrohir are captured by men whose sole purpose is to hurt Lord Elrond.

Legolas makes a vow that binds his and Aragorn's fates. "You are worth any and all sacrifices that are given for you. Do not mar the memory of those sacrifices by making them burdens of guilt upon your heart, but think of them instead as gifts."

King Elessar is feeling the pinch of too many people, too many responsibilities, and too many rules. While he misses the relative freedom of his days as a Ranger of the North, his sense of duty precludes him abdicating his responsibilities.
